This is part 5 of a series on the evolution of Bible interpretation which describes how both internal factors in the church and external factors in the culture have changed the way the Bible has been interpreted over time. This episode examines the events of the Protestant Reformation and its effects on Christendom, addressing both its positive and negative outcomes. The principal focus is on Martin Luther and John Calvin, both of whom rank among the most prominent and impactful leaders of the Reformation movement. We’ll examine their backgrounds, formative experiences, the factors that led to their disillusionment with the Church, their motivations and expectations, as well as the Church’s response to their conscientious opposition to the established Catholic Church.
