The Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture has officially launched a major drive to revive provincial irrigation schemes, investing more than 19-and-a-half million rand to boost food production and fight poverty.
Agriculture MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe unveiled the initiative at the Zanyokhwe Irrigation Scheme in Keiskammahoek, saying the programme will support vegetable, grain and fodder production while creating jobs and strengthening the province's rural economy.
