Norwegian Viva Caribbean Cruise Day 2: The Baths at Virgin Gorda from Tortola by Speedy's Ferry

Описание: This was Day 2, stop 1 of our March 17-24, 2024 Eastern Caribbean cruise with Norwegian Viva. We docked at Tortola, British Virgin Islands on March 18 and immediately proceeded to the Speedy’s Ferry Boat Terminal which was an 8-minute brisk walk from the cruise terminal. If we had gone with NCL on this excursion, we would have paid $160/person. Instead, we ventured out on our own and paid $40/person, which included the round trip land transfer from the ferry terminal at Virgin Gorda to the Baths. We took the 9am ferry to Virgin Gorda and spent a couple hours wading around the Baths until I got hungry. We ate lunch at “The Top of the Baths” restaurant, but if I were to do it all over again, I’d have eaten at nearby Mad Dog for a fraction of the cost. The owner of Mad Dog was very nice and even spoke to us in Tagalog, which really surprised and amazed us. We then took the 3:30pm ferry back to Tortola and ran as fast as we could back to the cruise terminal, with about 10 minutes to spare before all aboard.It was an amazing day to say the least. The Baths is definitely on my top 5 most beautiful beaches I have ever been to, and definitely the most interesting one yet.

Would I go back to Virgin Gorda? The answer is yes, because I have to find out what’s in the trail that we couldn’t go on.

The Baths at Virgin Gorda is a collection of granite boulders that have formed pools and grottos, including secret rock pools and the Cathedral Room, a natural pool inside a cave. The boulders are some as large as houses, and are thought to be remnants of volcanic activity millions of years ago. The Baths is located on the southern tip of Virgin Gorda, about 1.2 miles (1.9 km) south of Spanish Town, between Spring Bay and Devil's Bay. The Baths is a major tourist destination in the British Virgin Islands. 

The Baths features a labyrinth of cavernous passages that meander through sheltered sea pools along a sun-drenched shoreline. The maze leads to secret rock pools, including Devil's Bay, a beautiful beach with white sand.
