3D models of cliffs and coastlines can be a very useful information to monitor changes over time such as accurate volume rate change and identify the cause and magnitude of the erosion problem.
These highly detailed, photo-realistic and geographically accurate models allow environmentalists to extract accurate 3D measurements (volume, distance, texture) and visually identify rocks/ground type and structure. 3D models can also be used as input information for simulation.
3D time-series can also be used to have a better understanding of erosion over targeted areas.
A 30km 3D model of the City of Onkaparinga coastline has been generated as part of a new effort to monitor coastal erosion.
