Dolphins, Bait Balls, and Reef Fish! A Perfect Day at Buffalo Bay

We headed out from Buffalo Bay hoping for a massive day of bottom fishing, but as every fisherman knows, the ocean doesn't always play along! 🌊
The highlight of the trip was definitely the surface action. We ran into some solid mackerel bait balls and had a blast casting small jigs to get some fresh bait. However, we weren't the only ones hungry! A pod of dolphins moved in right in front of us, "terrorizing" the bait balls and putting on a wild display of natural hunting. It’s incredible to see them work, even if they make catching the mackerel a lot more difficult!
The bottom jigging was a bit of a grind. It was slow going, but we stuck at it and managed to pull up some smaller Steenbras and reef species to save the day. It wasn't the busiest day on the reef, but any day out on the Garden Route is a win in my books.
