Tight hips, sore groin and low back pain are often related to having chronic unconscious tension in the Psoas Muscles - your major hip flexors. Learn how to release them in this video!
Equestrians are aware of how important it is to have "open hips" and a "long leg" to properly administer the aids when riding, and to have clear communication and a comfortable ride. This simple exercise is a great one to do before you mount your horse or climb on your bike - or anytime you have spent an extended period sitting, squatting or kneeling.

If this is your first time doing Hanna Somatics, please review the following guidelines before beginning the lesson:
1. Move SLOWLY and GENTLY
This gives your brain time to notice all that is happening in your body as you move.
2. Use the LEAST possible EFFORT
Move slowly, gently, and stay within your comfort zone and easy range of motion.
3. Focus on the FEELING
Focus on the internal sensations, the feeling, of each movement - concentrate on moving slowly and with control.
4. Do NOT FORCE any movement
It takes time for your brain to relearn how to move efficiently, and force only gets in the way.
5. Avoid STRETCHING
It triggers a reflex that gets in the way of the muscle resetting we are doing.
6. Somatic Exercises are NOT PAINFUL
These are the normal movements of the human body, and done slowly and gently, they are harmless.
