In the process of attempting to replace drifting analog sticks with new GuliKit TMR sticks for someone, two traces going to the left analog stick were damaged. I then spent several days trying to route around the damage and troubleshooting weird intermittent issues with the X axis of the left analog stick. In the end it seems there was a short to ground on the X axis trace, though it worked briefly at one point anyway, making it harder to find.
I didn't record/upload much of this process because I was largely going in blind and wasn't sure it would be successful, but I had been recording this to get someone's advice and then I ended up figuring it out myself finally (I did also receive valuable help along the way). All in all I spent around a week working on this controller and I'm glad to be done with it.
Since the recording the controller has ben reassembled, calibrated, and tested by its owner and it seems to be in good shape now.
Apologies for foul language or bad attitude in this one, this thing has been maddening.
