Our starting point for exploring the question is the Hawke- Keating Story. Where do these four terms of Labor governments sit in political history other than for their longevity?
Both Prime Ministers are hailed rightly as administratively successful political reform leaders. But how can we label in contemporary ideological terms? Labourists? Third Way? Precursors to neo-Liberalism?
Does today’s view of yesterday’s leaders affect perceptions
of current and future Labor governments? Does it matter?
At the table will be author, former journalist and political biography expert, Dr Chris Wallace of the University of Canberra, the ANU’s Professor Frank Bongiorno, economist, former Hawke adviser and ex- minister, Dr Craig Emerson , veteran speechwriter Stephen Mills.
