Come along with us as we take a short walk from our house in Colorado down to our favorite local creek for a spring day of fly fishing for wild brown trout and rainbow trout! This small stream fishing adventure is full of tight casts, skinny water, and spooky fish—but that’s exactly what we love about it.
We fished a small dry dropper rig, targeting beautiful wild trout in low, clear water. The conditions were technical: fish were skittish, and the casting lanes were narrow, surrounded by overhanging trees and thick willows. We got tangled more times than we could count, but we embraced the challenge.
The trout were active and eager to rise, making for an exciting day on the water. We stayed low, made careful drifts, and tried to be as stealthy as possible to avoid spooking fish. Every catch felt earned, especially in such a tricky, tight stream.
Fly fishing our local creek reminded us why we love small water so much. Whether it was brown trout hiding under root balls or rainbows tucked into shallow runs, we found fun in every moment—snags, missed hooksets, and all.
If you enjoy watching trout fishing, dry fly action, hopper dropper techniques, and the ups and downs of exploring your home water, this video is for you. Thanks for coming along with us, and we hope it inspires you to grab your fly rod and find your own local stream to explore. Tight lines! 🎣🌿
