Paloma: Sunburns and Suntans are both dangerous, and I think that is something that some people don't understand. They'll say "I don't burn, and because I don't burn I'm not going to get cancer. Unfortunately that is not the way it works, you can get cancer just by being exposed to the sun so it depends on how your skin is going to react to that exposure. I burn a lot but I also have friends who get tan, and they also have gone through this experience unfortunately as well, so it's both ways, it's just exposure to the sun that can make it.

Dr. Kriegel: There was a time when we thought UVB was the cause of skin cancer and UVA was the cause of wrinkling. Well we know today that UVA and UVB are carcinogenic, they cause cancer. Whether it be through a sunburn or a suntan, there is no question that when you are getting a suntan your skin cells are getting a reaction from ultraviolet radiation, and it doesn't really matter what the reaction is, we know that there is a reaction and that reaction is a carcinogenic reaction or a cancer forming reaction. So there is no safe sun, UVA, UVB are dangerous ultraviolet radiation and whether they cause suntan or sunburn, they cause cancer.
