In this short documentary, four-year-old Yiannis Papazoglou and his parents meet with The Gene Team at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His rare disease, caused by a mutation in the IRF2BPL gene, is progressive.
The Gene Team brings families together with passionate scientists and students to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and the real-world impact of rare diseases that affect the brain. Meeting Yiannis inspires two of the scientists to dedicate their time to study the disease, with the hope of developing a treatment. Understanding the stakes, they work to secure research funding, motivated by the conviction that every child deserves the opportunity for a full life.
Einstein’s Gene Team is a program of the Rose F. Kennedy Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC).
