On July 9, 2023, the Santa Fe Police Department was operating a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint. A Mercedes-Benz with expired registration came through the checkpoint. The vehicle was being driven by a 24-year-old woman. The car, however, belonged to the passenger, who had consumed too much alcohol to drive. The driver's 4-year-old child was in the backseat. The driver did not have her driver's license with her and the occupants had no proof of insurance in the vehicle. Officer Smith ran some computer checks on the driver and discovered that her driver's license had been revoked for a previous DUI conviction and she was only allowed to drive a vehicle with an Interlock Ignition Device (IID) installed. The Mercedes that she was driving did not have an IID. She was removed from the vehicle and performed standardized field sobriety tests (FSTs). She was subsequently arrested for her second DUI in 2023. She was taken to the police station, where she submitted to an evidentiary breath test (EBT). The result was 0.06% BAC. However, she was still charged with a long list of violations that are discussed at the end of the video.
