After the stillness of the opening Raag Marwa, the evening continued at the Music Hall of Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms with Raag Hansdhwani. This second performance brought brightness, movement and rhythmic energy into the space, creating a lively contrast to the meditative opening.
Pandit Ajay Prasanna’s bansuri flowed with clarity and freshness, supported by the rhythmic accompaniment of Shahbaz Hussain on tabla and R. N. Prakash on ghatam. Their sensitive and energetic support added depth and momentum to the unfolding raga.
Hansdhwani is known as the raga of new beginnings. Its clear phrases and uplifting character make it a favourite for invoking joy, optimism and spiritual brightness. As the melody developed, the music gradually lifted the mood of the audience and filled the hall with warmth and vitality.
