The Music Hall at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms was the perfect place for the final concert in our four-part series last November. KalaSudha organized the event, which aimed to help the audience truly feel the spiritual side of Hindustani music. The old, beautiful hall and the sound of the bansuri (Indian flute) made the evening special and memorable for everyone there.
Pandit Ajay Prasanna, who has been nominated for the Grammy four times and is a respected musician from the Banaras Gharana, played beautifully that night. He learned from his father, Pt. Bholanath Prasanna's flute playing sounded both strong and gentle. Having Ajay ji perform was a proud moment for our community, showcasing how Indian music connects with people around the world.
The beginning part (aalap) of Raag Marwa was very touching. Marwa is a raga played at sunset and is special because it leaves out an important note (Pa), which gives it a feeling of longing, just like the end of the day. Ajay ji played the soft, flat notes carefully and made everyone in the room feel calm and thoughtful. This performance truly showed the deep feelings we hope to share at our events.
