I’ve spent years working on my rowing technique—it’s still not perfect, but it’s come a long way.
Observations:
✔️ Smooth, efficient, and powerful
✔️ Legs doing the “heavy lifting”
✔️ Less wasted energy—just clean speed
Previously, I tried rowing with inefficient technique, and my back took a beating, my catch felt rushed, and my splits suffered. But here? It’s the complete opposite:
✅ My back? Happy and healthy
✅ My catch? Sharp and connected
✅ My splits? The same with less effort, or faster with the same effort. Especially when I add rate.
Final thoughts:
Rowing feels completely different when the technique is right. More speed, less strain, and the ability to actually sustain effort at high intensities. And this isn’t just for on-water rowers—CrossFit & Hyrox athletes can use this technique to save energy for other events while still holding the same or even faster split.
It’s especially beneficial for shorter athletes, who can’t afford to waste power with inefficient strokes. Maximizing every bit of length and connection makes a huge difference in keeping up with taller competitors.
