The presentation will center the incept of our program. We will share the Transgender District's history as the first legally recognized transgender district in the world. Originally named after the first documented uprising of transgender and queer people in United States history, the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots of 1966.
We will explores how our mission and vision centres those most at the margins in our community and how the District stabilizes and economically builds power for the transgender community through stable housing, businesses development, historic and cultural sites preservation, and creating safe community spaces.
We will share how the District works to address the root causes of economic inequality, ensuring that those most impacted by poverty have a voice in creating solutions.
We will share the creative pathways to economic empowerment, income enhancement, and peer led methodology.
Including the inception of the District's Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program created to solve a complex economic challenge: If they don’t hire trans people: who will?
In leading both Entrepreneurship and Job Training as well as Housing Stability initiatives, the District is able to provide advocacy and resources for different populations within the trans community no matter what stage of life they might be in.
