A gloomy, rainy Sunday in ever-energetic Tokyo. Spent the day shopping and strolling around Ginza & Akihabara.
We started the day in Asakusa, stumbling upon a weekend food bazaar near Sensoji Temple. Trying dango and grilled fish, and enjoying the charm of the neighborhood we stayed in. From there, we headed to Ginza, wandering through Ginza Six, Loft, and Itoya while hunting for bags, shoes, and stationery.
Queues were everywhere that day. From soba to sushi, we kept missing out until hunger won and we ended up at an izakaya, learning the hard way about seating and weekend charges. The day ended in Akihabara with gachapon, our beloved Mini One mini cheesecakes, and a late dinner at Matsuya. This was where we unknowingly began comparing Japan’s big three beef bowl chains.
This is Day 4 of our 10-day Tokyo trip in early November, autumn in Japan 🍁

Areas we explored:
• Asakusa: Sensoji Temple area’s Sunday food bazaar for local street food
• Ginza: A shopping-heavy district with not much street food or coffee. Mostly malls and department stores, with lots of designer and commercial-level brands
• Akihabara: Iconic, but somehow slightly underwhelming on this trip. Many stores close relatively early
Places & spots worth checking out:
• Loft Ginza: Five storeys of lifestyle goods, accessories, stationery, and small everyday finds
• Itoya Ginza: A 12-storey stationery heaven, perfect for journaling and paper lovers
• ABC Mart Grand Stage: A huge sneaker store, with something for everyone looking for shoes from popular brands
• RT by Rag Tag: A higher-end secondhand store with great curation
Food & coffee we tried:
• Matsuya: Popular and excellent gyudon, our favorite among the big three beef bowl chains
• Asakusa weekend bazaar: The biggest dango we’ve ever had, grilled fish on a stick, and other typical Japanese street food
• Ichinoza Yurakucho Kushi Sakaba: An izakaya with high weekend and seating fees. The food is not bad, but not great
• 10Factory: A unique store of all things orange, we tried the fresh orange juice and their jelly drink, both are a great experience
• Yanaka Coffee: Dark-roasted Japanese iced coffee, strong and bitter
• Mini One: Tiny bite-sized cheesecakes we always love
