A few thoughts:
Gemini 3 Pro has a tendency to be a little too helpful. Even in Guided Learning Mode, if you give a correct first step, Gemini might get excited and do the next step for you.
If you’re looking for a strict step-by-step coach, you may need to explicitly prompt it to "not provide any subsequent steps until I answer."
Also, keep an eye on your model selection; while "Fast" is my recommended starting point for general tutoring, you might need to jump to the "Thinking" model for high-level math or coding logic.
