After having the RM4 Koay Teow Th'ng yesterday at Xiao Shi kopitiam, I passed by this restaurant which looked interesting since I had not had wan than mee in a long time. I have to cut down on wanthan noodles due to my diabetes, as usually the sauce from wanton mee is quite sweet.
Anyway I went back again today to try this place called HQ Kitchen Restaurant and Cafe 會泉軒食館 which is just 3 doors down from Xiao Shi coffeeshop on Jalan Sungai Ujung.
I was greeted by a very nice lady standing outside as she beckoned me in, and I was the only customer at the time. I found out from her and chatting with the owner that the original shop was in Ipoh, but after the father had passed away the son decided to move his business to Penang where his wife comes from. They had quite a good following in Ipoh and even Jason Axian had visited their shop before. Now their business is restarting in Penang, and we have the chance to eat the family's traditional noodles and roasted meats!
I try some of the offerings in their menu in the video, plus some samples the restaurant was kind enough to offer me, like kaya toast and crispy fried sui kow! Best part is, I could eat this without spiking my blood sugar, after 2 hours it only peaked at 7.4mmol/L!
Hope you guys enjoy this video and try the food at this place if you can!
