SDNP/25/03084: Mill Lane / B3006 Junction – Traffic Safety Concerns

Описание: The Mill Lane / B3006 junction is already a difficult and dangerous point on a fast rural corridor, where safe gaps in traffic are limited, particularly at peak times. Introducing school drop-off and pick-up traffic would significantly increase queue lengths at the junction, leading to regular traffic build-up on Mill Lane and increasing pressure on drivers under time constraints to take unsafe decisions when pulling out. This elevates collision risk not only for residents, but also for walkers, horse riders and cyclists using these narrow lanes.

While Hampshire County Council Highways has raised no formal objection to the proposal, this conclusion is based on traffic surveys undertaken during winter months. These do not reflect peak summer conditions, when coastal-bound traffic on the B3006 increases substantially, making traffic build-up and extended queuing at the junction far more likely, with higher volumes and fewer safe gaps. For these reasons, the SDNP/25/03084 proposal places children, parents and the wider community in an environment that is not suitable or safe for a school.
