Hiking the Cape Meares Beach Trail – Old-Growth Forest, Ocean Views & Adventure on the Oregon Coast

Описание: Tune in to enjoy another wonderful Oregon State Park nestled against the Pacific Ocean—Cape Meares on Oregon’s central coast. On this hike, my friend John and I explored the Cape Meares Beach Trail, a beautiful forested path winding down nearly 500 feet through thick coastal forest to a secluded, rocky shoreline.

After enjoying lunch overlooking the thunderous surf and trees bending in the wind, our hike back up was interrupted by a massive blow-down across the trail. With a bit of effort and balance, we scrambled up and over the fallen tree and continued the steep climb back through the lush, windswept forest.

This moderate 1.5-mile out-and-back trail is part of the Oregon Coast Trail and offers a great mix of old-growth Sitka spruce, dramatic ocean views, and coastal solitude. Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint also features other short hikes to the Octopus Tree (see at the 4 minute mark of this video) and Oregon’s shortest lighthouse, plus excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.
