🗡️ THE REAL MURAMASA STORY:
Muramasa Sengo was a legendary swordsmith during Japan's Muromachi period (1300s-1600s). His blades were exceptional - sharp, deadly, and reliable. But they came with a dark reputation: these swords were CURSED.
Warriors claimed Muramasa blades had to taste blood before being sheathed. If there was no enemy to kill, wielders would turn on themselves or allies. The swords seemed to possess a will of their own.
The Tokugawa family was particularly haunted by these weapons:

Tokugawa Ieyasu's grandfather - killed by a Muramasa blade
His father - assassinated with a Muramasa blade
His first-born son - forced to commit seppuku with a Muramasa blade

When Ieyasu became Shogun, he BANNED all Muramasa blades across Japan. In 1634, a magistrate was discovered hoarding 24 of them and was ordered to commit seppuku as punishment.

🎯 GHOST OF YOTEI CONNECTION:
Sucker Punch Productions brilliantly adapted this legend for Ghost of Yotei. Instead of cursed blood-red swords, they created cursed white armor - the Armor of the Undying.
The white color references:

The White Tiger (immortal warrior guardian in Japanese mythology)
Death and the supernatural in Japanese culture
Tsukumogami (objects that gain spirits/consciousness)

The Undying Samurai quest mirrors the real history: you collect artifacts (wind chimes) to claim cursed power, just like the magistrate collected Muramasa blades. Both quests for power end in confrontation with something that should have remained buried.
