Kale chane (black chickpeas) have a special place in Indian festivals and poojas. These are often prepared as prasad during Navratri, Ashtami, Ram Navami and other auspicious occasions. In this video, we’ll show you the authentic way of making prasad wale kale chane that are simple, sattvik and full of flavour. This chana is so healthy that you can have it in your routine breakfast, lunch or dinner also.
Black chickpea is rich in nutrients. It is packed with proteins, fibre and carbohydrates. It is rich in antioxidants & is a good source of vitamin B, Iron, Calcium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Magnesium & Potassium. It is good for digestive system & helps in weight loss. It also has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-cancer properties. It may lower blood sugar levels & blood cholesterol.
In Indian tradition, kale chane symbolize prosperity, strength, and devotion. Offering them during festivals is believed to bring blessings of Goddess Durga and good health for the family.
These protein-rich black chickpeas are soaked overnight, boiled and then tempered with minimal yet aromatic spices to create a dish that is light, nourishing, and spiritually significant. When paired with Sooji Halwa and Poori, it becomes the most loved Ashtami / Navami Prasad Thali.

Ingredients:–
For boiling chickpeas:-
Black chickpeas (black chana) – 1 cup (200g)
Salt – 1 tsp
Oil – 1 tbsp
For paste of spices:-
Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
Kashmiri red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Black pepper powder – ½ tsp
Roasted cumin powder – ½ tsp
Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
Dry mango powder – ½ tsp
Black salt – ½ tsp
For stir frying chickpeas:-
Clarified butter (desi ghee) / oil – 3 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Asafoetida (heeng) – 1 pinch
Ginger – 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
Green chilies – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
Finely chopped coriander leaves
