Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (R)

Today, we reflect on a man whose body carried the scars of faith.

This episode focuses on the defining quality of Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (R): patience under unbearable persecution.

Khabbab (R) was among the earliest people to accept Islam in Makkah.

But he had no powerful tribe to protect him.

He was a slave.

And for that reason, the enemies of Islam unleashed their cruelty upon him without mercy.

They would drag him across burning sand.

Sometimes they would place burning coals on his back while someone pressed him down so he could not move.

The heat would burn through his skin until the flames died out.

Years later, Khabbab (R) once uncovered his back to show the scars left by those punishments.

Yet through all that pain, he never abandoned his faith.

One day, while the Muslims were suffering greatly, they came to the Prophet ﷺ asking if relief would come.

Khabbab (R) was among those present.

The Prophet ﷺ reminded them of the believers before them — people who were cut with saws and tortured, yet never left their faith.

And he promised that the day would come when Islam would spread in safety and peace.

Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (R) reminds us that the strength of faith is not proven in comfort…

but in the moments when holding on becomes the hardest.
