Artists do what they do because they are in love with the world. That's why great works of art often depict scenes from nature or daily life. Think of the paintings by Georgia O'Keefe of the varied landscapes of New Mexico or A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, the painting Cameron was captivated by in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Art often imitates life because life moves us, it shapes us.
Milwaukee artist, Andrew Scott Braun realized this very thing while studying abroad in Europe. He went to lots of museums there and observed that many of paintings were scenes from the artists immediate surroundings. They were scenes of town squares, shops of the markets, landscapes of the beautiful countryside vistas.
When Andrew returned home he started noticing the beautiful scenes around Milwaukee. He's painted stunning renditions of Milwaukee's City Hall, The Central Library, and the art museum. "Wherever you look you can find something beautiful," Andrew says. It's this type of mindset that make artists so valuable to a community because they point out what goes unnoticed. Seeing the world through their eyes can open your eyes to what you're missing.
