Many of you may be experiencing joint pain—whether it’s knee pain, neck pain, or low back pain. When you visit a physiotherapist, they prescribe a few exercises and ask you to practice them regularly. You might start doing them, but the real question is: how many days do you actually continue?
Practically speaking, when you begin a new set of exercises, your muscles take about 0–2 weeks to adapt. During this phase, you only gain mild strength.
Between 3–6 weeks, the muscles start gaining initial strength, and this is the phase where you begin to notice a reduction in pain.
From 6–12 weeks, muscle strengthening becomes clearly noticeable, and pain relief becomes more consistent.
However, for a muscle to become fully strong, well-built, and capable of protecting the painful joint, it takes almost 3–6 months of regular strengthening exercises.
So, if you do exercises for just 5 or 10 days and then stop, how can you expect the pain not to return?
Strengthening exercises are meant to make your muscles strong so they can protect your painful joints.
That’s why consistency is the key. Follow the exercises prescribed by your physiotherapist regularly and stay pain-free and healthy.
