A new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute reveals a major shift in the global arms trade between 2021 and 2025, with Germany overtaking China to become the world’s fourth-largest arms exporter. The report highlights how the United States continues to dominate the global weapons market with a 42% share, followed by France, Russia, Germany, and China. Rising European defense spending, military aid to Ukraine, and the sharp decline in Russian exports following the Russia–Ukraine War have reshaped the international arms market. The analysis also shows that Pakistan remains China’s largest arms customer, receiving about 80% of Beijing’s weapons exports, while European manufacturers are gaining new markets as countries seek alternatives to Russian systems.
