Описание: Reports indicate that the Indian Air Force is planning to procure hundreds of R-37M long-range air-to-air missile to significantly extend the combat reach of its Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighters. The missile, originally developed for the Mikoyan MiG-31BM, can reach targets up to around 400 km under optimal conditions and roughly 350 km when launched from fighters like the Su-30 or Sukhoi Su-35. The decision is reportedly influenced by lessons from clashes with Pakistan in 2025, where India’s S-400 air defense system and its 40N6 surface-to-air missile were credited with major successes, while air-to-air combat revealed challenges against Pakistan’s Chengdu J-10C fighters. India is also planning upgrades for its Su-30MKI fleet and considering future integration with the Sukhoi Su-57 fifth-generation fighter, potentially using advanced variants of the missile. Analysts say the move could help India counter long-range threats such as China’s PL-17 air-to-air missile and improve its ability to target high-value assets like AWACS aircraft at extreme distances.
