Welcome back to our BPMN in Action series, where we highlight why Business Process Model and Notation is the global standard for business process modeling. In this video, we dive into the history of BPMN: how it started, how it has evolved over time, and how it has become today’s standard.

Developer advocates Nele Uhlemman and Niall Deehan start by explaining BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) and how these terms are used in service-oriented architectures. The video then explores how and why the BPMI (Business Process Management Initiative) was established to create the first version of BPMN 1.0, providing a unified representation of the process execution language. The journey then continues with the ongoing development of BPMN under the OMG (Object Management Group).

The video concludes with a comparison of BPEL and BPMN, highlighting differences.
