Poland has suspended payments from an EU fund earmarked for its hotel and restaurant industry over an ongoing scandal regarding the alleged misuse of some of the money. Filip Pazderski, the Civil Society Program Manager at the Stefan Batory Foundation, sees the suspension of payments from the fund supporting hotels and restaurants in recovering from the post-pandemic crisis as a success for the opposition, which led to the government failing to fulfill one of its key election promises. The expert, who spoke with TVP World in a recent interview, emphasized that the current controversy concerns less than one percent of the total amount of the National Recovery Plan.
