The global debate is often framed as globalism versus nationalism.
That framing is wrong.
In this video, I explain why the real issue is not whether countries should cooperate globally, but who sets the rules, at what level, and in whose interests.
Globalism is not a single idea. There is a difference between bottom-up human interconnectedness — trade, travel, communication — and top-down political and regulatory coordination. Confusing the two has distorted public debate and produced poor policy choices.
Rather than repeating ideological labels, this episode looks at how power, sovereignty, markets, and institutions actually interact in the real world — and why the globalism vs nationalism binary no longer helps us understand what’s happening.
This video marks one year of Climate Mundial and sets out the analytical framework I’ll be using going forward across geopolitics, energy, trade, and climate policy.
