This is part two of how to edge an ice rink. There is no hard and fast rule on how deep to edge the rink. However, in general if your concrete and ice are level then 6 to 13 inches of edge away from the boards should take care of most rinks. A little more in the corners over the straight a ways. Care should be taken around the rest of the rink to ensure the proper edge depth.
I can not stress enough that the edging process does not end until the additional ice maintenance is performed. The rinks edges and especially the corners will never get level without doing the additional ice maintenance. Suggested patterns after edging are as follows: 2x; 2x1; 3x2x1x; 2x 2x 1x; 1x 1x 1x. Moving a 1/2 a conditioner’s length away from the boards with each step out from the boards.
That was not me edging the ice. I could not fit footage my the rink being edge in so I will do another video of me edging the entire rink.
One safety factor I did not cover is making sure to inspect the rink’s kick strip to ensure no screws are protruding out. This could damage the edger's blade causing it to break.
Questions and comments are much appreciated.
