Florida Shelling at Marco Island. Virtual beach combing and low tide treasures and critters.

Описание: Florida Shelling is addictive. Once you find a few shells and realize how much fun it is to hunt them down it kind of gets out of control. I visit beaches all over Southwest Florida in search of cool animals and shells to share while I'm taking my beach walks. And it never gets old. The beaches change, the shells are different and the critters are fascinating. There isn't much I don't like about visiting the beach.

Periostracum has vexed me since I picked up my first Florida Fighting Conch. I am quite particular about what I keep from my shelling beach walks and I've been dying to figure out how to safely remove that organic layer from the Florida Fighting Conchs. Someone left me a comment and I tried it - 100% bleach! It works fantastic and I have cleaned ALL of my FFC shells. I'm so happy that I don't have to leave the messy shells at the beach anymore!

Now the bleach method doesn't work for the white layer of calcium and acid kind of damages the shells since the acid will immediately take away any natural shine the shell has. I'm happy to have discovered the bleach method. It's so easy and works great.
