Why “What I Eat in a Day” Stops Working After 40
If you’re over 40, comparing your meals to someone else’s is one of the fastest ways to stall progress.
In this video, I explain why copying another person’s meal plan—especially from social media—rarely leads to the same results, and often leads to frustration, fatigue, and metabolic slowdown.
Here’s what most people don’t realize:
You don’t know the story that led to where that person is today.
You don’t know:
• how long they’ve been training
• what their metabolism has adapted to
• whether they’ve dieted for years or just started
• or what their body needed to get there
You also don’t share the same physiology.
Your:
• BMR (basal metabolic rate)
• TDEE (total daily energy expenditure)
• body composition
• muscle mass
• stress load
…are completely different from someone else’s—even if you’re the same height or weight.
And after 40, hormones change the entire equation.
Estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, insulin sensitivity, thyroid function, and gut health all influence:
• how you process carbohydrates
• how you store or burn fat
• how well you recover
• how much food your body actually needs
This is why eating too little, skipping meals, or mimicking someone else’s “perfect day of eating” often backfires in midlife.
Instead of copying what someone else eats, I teach women to focus on three non-negotiables:
1️⃣ Eating appropriately for your BMR and TDEE
Enough to support metabolism—without overfueling or chronic under-fueling.
2️⃣ Managing blood sugar consistently
Stable glucose = better energy, fewer cravings, improved fat loss, and better hormone signaling.
3️⃣ Eating to support hormones and gut health
Because digestion, inflammation, and hormone clearance matter more than calorie math alone.
Your body doesn’t need someone else’s plan.
It needs the right inputs for your current physiology.
