In this one- of- a- kind unfiltered conversation for the UN, Hon. Shukria Barakzai, Afghanistan's leading politician, diplomat, and writer, speaks to Prof. Rangita de Silva de Alwis about the underground schools that she started during the first Taliban regime, serving on the high council of constitution reform as a member of the Loya Jirga, and considering running for president of Afghanistan. In this first segment, she speaks to Rangita about how she started the first underground schools which focused on Math and Physics for high school girls and music for the younger girls at a time when music was banned. As a member of the constitution Loya Jirga, she helped draft the constitutional provisions banning polygamy, child marriage, forced marriage and violence against women. She speaks poignantly of what these provisions meant to her at a time of change in her personal life.
