Legian is one of Bali’s well-known tourist areas, located just north of Kuta. The area around Legian Beach has long been a favourite holiday spot for travellers from Australia and many other countries.

We started our walk along Jalan Sahadewa, better known as Garlic Lane. This street is usually bustling with tourists looking to shop for souvenirs or enjoy a meal in a more relaxed setting, as the traffic here isn’t as hectic as on other streets in the Legian area.

At the end of Garlic Lane, we reached a junction that connects to Jalan Padma. This street is also lined with plenty of restaurants where you can stop for a drink or a bite to eat. You’ll notice quite a few senior tourists here, many of whom seem to be regular visitors to Legian — some are so familiar with the locals working in the area that they greet each other like old friends. On the western end of this street, you’ll find several hotels that cater to travellers, and right at the very end stands a large gate marking the entrance to Padma Beach.

We then continued walking along Padma Beach in Legian all the way to Seminyak. This stretch of beach is a favourite hangout for tourists, especially for its stunning sunsets. Kids were flying kites, adults were out surfing, and plenty of couples were sitting together, soaking up the romantic vibes as the sun went down.

The Legian shoreline comes to an end up north at Double Six Beach in Seminyak. Along this stretch, you’ll find plenty of small beach bars pumping loud music, which is probably one of the reasons it’s a favourite spot for tourists who love the lively, party vibe of the Legian area. But this spot might not be the best choice if you’re after a quieter, more laid-back holiday vibe.
