Every agent uses their existing listings as leverage to get more listings. That’s normal and perfectly ok. What isn’t ok is how they present and conduct themselves in comparison to selling your home. Does the agent tell you that you need to remove all family photos, religious items, and anything else that that is personalized to you? But then she turns around and puts a glamour shot of herself with her cats that was taken 15 years ago and then puts it on anything and everything that is related to the sale of your house. Her picture is on brochures & business cards scattered throughout your home, the sign in the yard, and every online posting. At best, valuable ad space is taken up with information about the agent or company and not your home. The risk here is the agent is more interested in promoting themselves and you get treated like a number with one size fits all service and marketing. To avoid this, ask to see examples of of their marketing. What is the first thing you notice? Is the agent’s picture or logo bigger than the pictures of your home? It’s subtle, and some may argue it’s trivial. But real estate agents cost a lot of money, don’t pay someone simply to market themselves first, your home second.
