"Higher than 22" | A New Year's Poetry Film

Описание: Hey all! This is the poem I wrote using the New Year's poetry writing exercise! It was inspired by the novel I'm writing, and influenced by the places I traveled to this past year.
I included footage from my 2013 vacations in Europe and Tennesee, and put it to an amazing song by Lion, Meet Lizard.
I hope you enjoy it!

_Higher Than 22_

will we become immortal?

or has life everlasting always been?

I climbed to the city on a mountain
where my kindred stood
blood to blood
year after year

my ancestors led me home
compelling me from afar
their spirits, timeless talons reaching through hours
to tickle me further forward

the wind rushed too fast to hear their ancient whispers
but i know they said keep going
we didn't fight so you could stand still;
set fire to phobos and fly

having been possessed,
I became a dream seeker, like Rosalba,
a silent fighter who sings only at the moment of battle
and does not speak otherwise

instead exposing the naked nature of our humble humanity,
the barren beginning,
the tentative rise,
the deep breath taken before the slow exhale.
face death and you'll see:
there's nothing so painful
as an unrequited dream

sanity is a lie your masters told you
systems are asylums and order is your prison
don't answer the questions they ask.
they're meant to keep you in -
to tie you to the earth

I'll get us off this planet.
