Find the perpendicular line to y = mx + k going through a point
Perpendicular lines share a straight angle between them and we know that the product of their slopes is -1.
Since we know the slope of the original line, we can find the slope of the perpendicular line which is -1/m.
This provides us the general equation for an infinite number of parallel lines perpendicular to the first line. In order to calculate the equation through a specific point, we have to replace the coordinate of the point in the line and calculate the y-intercept.
