Part of the Alcohol policy in Canadian municipalities webinar series. The Northern Alcohol Strategy (NAS) supports and empowers Saskatchewan communities to develop locally-led alcohol strategies. The NAS promotes community collaboration while using evidence and healing-centred approaches to reduce alcohol-related harms. In Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the City introduced a bylaw restricting off sale alcohol hours, reducing availability from 8:00 a.m.–3:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. Working in partnership with public health, police, fire services, RCMP, and the University of Saskatchewan, the City evaluated the bylaw’s impact on community safety and well being. In this webinar, the NAS shared practical guidance and tools to support communities in starting conversations and developing effective strategies. The City of Prince Albert and its partners presented findings from the bylaw evaluation, highlighting lessons learned and the real world impact of local alcohol policy on community harm reduction.
