Karl Ernst Naumann was a German organist and composer of the later Romantic period. He was born in Freiberg, Saxony, and died in Jena, Thuringia. He studied in Leipzig and obtained a doctoral degree there before becoming organist in Jena in 1860, where he later also became professor of music. He made a name through arrangement of works, predominantly by Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. This prelude on the Lutheran funeral chorale "Jesus, meine Zuversicht" (Jesus, my confidence) is a trio with the melody in the upper line; the piece is No. 4 of "Dritte Abteilung: Canons and Trios" of the collection "Jubel-Album für die Orgel" edited by Fr. W. Schütze from 1862, available on the IMSLP website. I recently became aware of this interesting sheet music collection through the YouTube channel of Carmenio Ferrulli, who has offered several excellent videos on compositions contained in that compilation. The piece is presented with one repetition with different registration.
Instrument: Johannus Live III, sample: Sauer - Leipzig.
