Today's video isn't particularly scientific; nor is there much to really learn (good start, eh?). But for the first time, I have guitars here with various takes on the PAF pickup in them....three are from Mark Stow at OX4: the 'standard' AlNiCo 4 humbucker; as well as the Beano and Hot Duanes. One of the sets is the legendary Monty's PAFs by Matt Gleeson. Some are low wind, some hotter; a mixture of covered and uncovered; and all four types of AlNiCo magnet found in vintage PAFs.
Because the Monty's set has an A2 in the bridge and A5 in the neck, I'm only going to be focussing on bridge pickups today. But I wanted to have a play around with these guitars and see how different the various PAFs sound, rather than how similar we can get them. They all have different setups to suit the individual guitars; and the guitars all have different constructions. So how different do they all sound overall?
What do you think? The best humbucker pickup ever made? Or not for you? Comment below!
