Tunisian President Karis Saied has been facing severe international backlash over a wave of arrests targeting journalists, lawyers and activists. Hundreds gathered in the country's capital Tunis to protest against the president. For the second time in a week, lawyers have launched a one-day nationwide strike. The protests are against recent arrests and alleged abuse of two lawyers, Mahdi Zagrouba and Sonia Dahmani. Tunisian police stormed the bar association's headquarters for the second time in two days and arrested Zagrouba, who has criticized the president, after detaining Dahmani over the weekend. The bar association and human rights groups said that Zagrouba was tortured during his detention but the Tunisian government has rubbished these allegations.
