The prototype DH100 Vampire LZ548/G was first flown on 20th September 1943 at Hatfield by Geoffrey de Havilland son of the founder.
In this film we explore the operational life of the De Havilland Vampire the first single engine jet powered aircraft to exceed 500 mph.
With rare footage from the 1953 Farnborough Air Show, the Vampires that flew with the Italian Air Force, footage from the UK based Vampire WZ507 tearing up the runway at Halpenny Green, footage from Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron, flying the de Havilland Vampire FB.52 SE-DXE and the de Havilland Vampire T.55 LN-DHZ.
Footage from the Swiss based Vampires who once a year in August, the airfield sees a lot of activity when the “Flugplatzfest” is organized. This is the time when many other historic aircraft find their way to St. Stephan to fly for the public .
