Clara Peeters fue pionera en el campo de la naturaleza muerta y una de las pocas mujeres que trabajaron como pintoras en la Edad Moderna temprana. Desarrolló su actividad en Amberes y su primera obra fechada es de 1607. Se conocen hoy unas 40 obras de su mano.

Los cuadros de Clara Peeters son elegantes y precisos. Son también enigmáticos: ¿qué significaba para alguien de en torno a 1610 una vasija de porcelana del tipo de las que vemos en estos bodegones? ¿Y una alcachofa o una concha? Esta exposición se propone responder a estas preguntas y poner de relieve los logros de esta artista, poco conocida pero extraordinaria.

Alejandro Vergara, Chief Curator of Flemish and Northern School Painting comments on the exhibition "The Art of Clara Peeters".

Clara Peeters was a pioneer in the field of still life painting, and one of the few women painters active in Early Modern Europe. She worked in Antwerp, and her first dated painting is from 1607. Approximately forty paintings by her are known today.

The paintings of Clara Peeters are elegant and precise. They are also enigmatic. What did a porcelain vessel of the type that we see in these still lifes mean to someone around 1610? And an artichoke or a sea shell? The goal of this exhibition is to answer these questions, and to highlight the achievements of this little known but extraordinary artist.
