Have you ever tried eating an olive straight from the tree? Surprisingly, a fresh olive is too bitter to enjoy without being treated and processed. This humble fruit, however, holds a deeper spiritual significance than its outward simplicity suggests.
Olive trees are uniquely resilient.
They can thrive for thousands of years and still produce fruit. In Israel, some olive trees are over 2,000 years old, their ancient roots still yielding olives and oil of the finest quality. These enduring trees remind us of the profound truths of God’s Word and His eternal plans.
In Corinthians, the Apostle Paul writes:
Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God.
2 Corinthians 1:21
This verse speaks to the foundation of our faith and the anointing we have in Christ. Interestingly, in Hebrew, the word for “Christ” is Mashiach, and the word for “anointed” is mashuach. Both words share the same root, emphasizing that our anointing flows directly from the Anointed One.
Olive oil, often used in Scripture as a symbol of God’s anointing, teaches us a vital spiritual principle. But how is this precious oil extracted? It’s through the olive press—a process of crushing and pressing that releases the oil hidden within the fruit.
Without the pressure, there is no oil.
This truth mirrors our walk with God. Life’s pressures—trials, challenges, and testing—often feel overwhelming, but they serve a divine purpose. Just as the olive must endure crushing to yield its oil, we, too, experience God’s anointing being drawn out through the pressures of life.
When we face hardships, it’s essential to remember that we are established in Mashiach. He has anointed us, and through our struggles, His anointing is refined and revealed. Standing firm in faith, trusting God, and growing closer to Him in the face of difficulty allows the “oil” of His Spirit to flow through our lives.
As we approach the end times, the pressures of the world are undeniably increasing. Yet, God has equipped us for such a time as this. The Anointed One has empowered us through His Holy Spirit to endure tribulations and emerge victorious. The greater the pressure, the greater the oil. More pressure produces more anointing.
For those facing persecution, trials, or overwhelming challenges, take heart.
The anointing of the Holy Spirit is at work in you. As you lean into God’s strength, refusing to complain but instead praising Him in all circumstances, His Spirit will flow from your life like oil from the olive. That oil doesn’t just bless you—it blesses those around you, bringing hope, healing, and encouragement.
Let us pray for one another, brothers and sisters. May the pressures we face draw us closer to the Lord, and may His anointing flow powerfully through us. May we shine as testimonies of God’s strength and glory, glorifying Him in every situation.
Be strong, stand firm, and trust in the One who turns your pressures into anointing.
