Decided to go out to Mantua (pronounced "Man-a-way") again to hear this Sterling again after yesterday's failure in Independence, and it looks like they recently repainted this siren and the controls with a fresh coat of red too. It sure looks sharp! This is an 8/16 port model, and is circa 1957. This was probably my best take yet out of the three times I have been here before, and I was very satisfied with the way the video turned out.
I was afraid at first this siren would fail because the timer is programmed to sound the siren at 12:02 PM, and it didn't end up going off until 12:04, when it fired up for the normal one minute alert. It wasn't as loud as it was when I was here back in December, but that's because I actually remembered my hearing protection this time. I also photographed their old disconnected 2001-DC down the road which this siren indirectly replaced years ago after it was restored and reinstalled. The 2001 hasn't sounded for many years and power is cut to that siren, which is just down the road by Crestwood High School.
Mantua tests this Sterling every Sunday at 12:02 PM on the dot.
Enjoy!
