"Thereafter in the daytime she would weave at her great loom,
but in the night she would have torches set by, and undo it."
(The Odyssey of Homer, Book II, lines 104-105)
I composed a theme for Penelope, from Homer’s 8th Century epic poem The Odyssey. For 20 years, Penelope has been awaiting the return of her husband Odysseus from the Trojan War. Left with the island kingdom of Ithaca, she endures the pursuits of countless opportunistic suitors who have taken up residence in her home, believing Odysseus dead and wishing to marry Penelope to gain power. In a gamble for time, she announces that she will marry a suitor after having woven a shroud for Odysseus’ ageing father. But secretly, she unwinds her progress each night.
This theme was recorded and mixed by me using virtual orchestral samples from Spitfire Audio (@spitfireaudiollp) and Native Instruments (@NativeInstruments)
Who should I write for next? Let me know in the comments!
