A seven-month pregnant Venezuelan woman was shot and killed during a gun attack in Arouca on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

The victim, identified as Annalisa Lopez, was shot shortly after 1:00 p.m. while at a shed in a garden along Garden Road with her boyfriend and other individuals.

Police reports indicate that a gunman approached the group and opened fire, causing them to scatter in different directions.

Lopez was struck during the attack and was taken to the Arima Hospital by police, where she later died.

Investigators believe the woman was not the intended target of the shooting and that the gunman was seeking her boyfriend.

Officers of the North Central Division and Region 2 Homicide Bureau of Investigations, led by ASP Sunil Bharath, visited the scene and are continuing enquiries.
