Perhaps the single greatest midi ever written. I can say with some confidence, that I have never heard better. This midi has held a special place for me for many many years. For a long time it became almost representative of myself and my struggles in some of my worst periods. Some days it was all that kept me going, listening to it on repeat. Those 50 minutes go by like nothing, puts me in a trance for the full duration.
Its been meaningful for me personally in the past. And over time it also became meaningful for me since its my girlfriend Alex's favorite track of what I've showed her, and we bonded over it early on in to meeting. So, the hours and hours of balancing I did on the guitars to make this track perfect, I dedicate to her, because I needed it to be perfect for her.
I used Okuplok as a model for it, since its definitely the map I associate most with it, and idk when else I would get a chance to feature Okuplok. Originally I was thinking of doing an image for every single fight... but there are 32 distinct fights so it would be rotating less than every 2 minutes, which is excessive. So I instead just did 8, for each section of the track (according to KoD's own upload of it). I also used Coincident's namings of the fights since those may as well be official titles. It was pretty fun to take these screenshots despite GzDoom crashing constantly.
I must say, although I spent an absurd amount of time balancing the Overdrive and Distortion guitar, mostly with this track in mind, this track does stray from the feel of the standard in some ways due to the high amount of layers in every guitar. When there are just so many notes happening at once and every one of them has 20+ layers, it gets a bit messy. The lower octave notes especially tend to take up more space than the higher ones so some of the solos become less clear. But, overall I feel its a fair tradeoff and I am more than satisfied with how this turned out.
